The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Discovery Center is devoted to showcasing equitable design innovations that are making life better for all people. In-Process is a virtual extension of this mission – it is a platform for celebrating innovators and the projects they have created, as well as being an easy-to-use tool that students and educators can use to learn how to use the human-centered design process to create their own innovations.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Discovery Center takes visitors on an interactive journey that brings to life the connections we share with others across the globe. The exhibition space is open to the public and is a frequent destination for school trips for students of all ages. The center is home to rotating exhibitions showcasing innovations and inventions focused in education, health and poverty that are helping to create a world where every person has the opportunity to live a healthy and productive life.

In-Process is a digital platform focused on both educating the user about how to use the human-centered design process, while also showing real-life examples of innovators who have used the process to create their own projects.
Users begin the process by choosing a cause and a question that they would like to address, such as “How can we utilize undeveloped or underdeveloped land to grow food?” Once a cause is chosen, the user enters the Research & Discover phase and is guided through a series of questions about the people and the key issues at the heart of the issue. The user then begins brainstorming opportunities for designing solutions. The process ends with a photo generator built into the site that allows the user to upload images of their sketches so they can share their design with the world.
