Summary
Internationally renowned architecture firm, Miller Hull, is known for their tradition of designing dynamic and environmentally sensitive buildings. Working closely with their team we built a new web presence that reflected their core values and would share over thirty years worth of work.
Background
Miller Hull founders David Miller and Robert Hull began by designing many award winning earth sheltered and solar buildings in the early 1980’s. The tradition of designing dynamic and environmentally sensitive buildings continues to this day. They are the architects behind The Bullitt Center, widely regarded as “the greenest office building in the world.” They are currently working on a groundbreaking project for the Oregon State University College of Forestry that will make a case for the wood-skyscraper movement.

Assignment
Create a new mobile-first responsive website that reflects Miller Hull’s values and displays over thirty years of work.
Location
Seattle, WA and San Diego, CA USA
Collaborators
Hugh Saffell
Approach
In a series of interviews and surveys we found that at their core the Miller Hull design principles focus on exposing systems, removing the superfluous, and achieving maximum efficiency.
We animated the homepage to allow the site to work with the user rather than for the user. Due to the interconnectedness of the site, animations only load when the user interacts with them. Just like all Miller Hull projects, the website takes into account the materials (here, that’s the content), the space (which is, the browser) and the user.
