Death Over Dinner

Let’s Have Dinner and Talk about Death is a project created to foster inspiring and constructive conversations about end-of-life decisions. Since its launch in 2013, over 100,000 people in 30 countries have come together to share their thoughts about death with family and friends.

How we want to die represents the most important and costly conversation America isn’t having. To date, 75% of Americans say they would prefer to die at home, and yet only 25% do. Death over Dinner, also known as Let’s Have Dinner and Talk About Death, was created to change these statistics by fostering proactive and uplifting conversations about end-of-life decisions.

Partnering with co-founders Michael Hebb and Scott Macklin (Associate Director of the UW Master of Communication in Communication Leadership) along with photographer Amanda Ringstad, the project was further supported by a global team of top medical and wellness advisors – ranging from doctors and healthcare professionals to artists and authors.

In close collaboration with the team, Civilization developed and designed the project’s identity, collateral, and website as well as provided art direction and overall strategy. The end result was an accessible and interactive blueprint to help guide family and friends through this much needed conversation around the table. Armed with this toolkit, since its launch, over 100k people have come together to break bread. The site has since been localized in Australia.

In December 2016, Let’s Have Dinner and Talk About Death became an official partner with Arianna Huffington’s Thrive Global platform.
